About Us

Mighty Men of Valour was first established in August 2002.  The name is derived from the Bible in Judges 6:12.

The word VALOUR in the Oxford English dictionary the means:

“great courage, especially in war.”
The qualities of a hero (or heroine); exceptional or heroic courage when facing danger (especially in battle).
Mighty Men of Valour speaks to men who want to make a difference in their lives. All things are possible to those who believe.

Mighty Men of Valour was birthed....

Mighty Men of Valour was birthed through the growing negative perception of “black” men in the UK.  This seemed evident from the over representation of these men in prison, mental institutions, and from those who were unemployed, being excluded from and failing in our UK schools.
These challenges would in turn create pressure on personal relationships, on their children development, to their community cohesion and finally on the indigenous community.
However, when Mighty Men of Valour sought to challenge these negative stereotypes, we found that when racism was absent, many men face similar challenges.  The effect of racism would obviously compound these issues.
Sadly, racisms still exists, however all men especially when they are young, need to challenge the negative stereotypes of themselves which reduces their ability to function as part of their society and to feel as worthwhile members of their community.
No self respecting young man wants to go to prison, to be unemployed, to be rejected or abuse or have their children or their partner/spouse abused, regardless of the colour, race, culture, faith, beliefs or origin.
This abuse may have happened to them when they were younger and it is about breaking those negative cycles in their lives as early in their lives as possible. This is why we work closely with the NSPCC, NACRO, YOT, PCT local councils, and other agencies including faith groups.

Why Mighty Men of Valour?
MMV

Mighty Men of Valour can change young men's lives and make a significant difference to our work in engaging men to become responsible individuals.

In doing so, MMV can help safe guard vulnerable children, young people, women and our spouse and thus help our communities move closer to reducing crime, domestic violence, child abuse, child poverty, inequality and sexism.

At present we pride ourselves on the fact that everyone who works for our Charity, including the Executive Director, volunteers.

This means that the service that we provide is of even more Social Capital i.e. value than paid workers because everything we provide has directly or indirectly cost us our time, our energy, our commitment and sometime our resources to make a difference to a young person’s or individuals life.

We welcome your support and would love you to be involved, but we also know that this commitment is sometimes too much for some people. Hence our name: Mighty Men of Valour!

We do this through our:

Mighty Men for Valour - Conferences, Seminars and Events

Valour Youth - Mentoring, Coaching and IAG service

Women of Valour - Mentoring, Coaching and IAG service

Men of Valolur - Mentoring, Coaching and IAG service

MMV also promotes discussions on men’s’ issues through conferences, workshops and seminars, addressing topics related to the challenges of men.

Over 400 men and women last year attended our relationship workshops. Our Head Office is in Croydon, Surrey, and we offer training in London and Surrey.

Are you a Mighty Man of Valour?

The reason why men have been our focus is simply because it has been said that there are very few visible role models working within the community.

MMV are exploring new and exciting ways to promote good practice in men and to raise the profile of those men, from all communities, to reduce and eradicate immoral behaviour such as:

unwanted pregnancies; sexually transmitted diseases; child abuse; domestic violence; gun and drug related crimes and other deviant acts committed by men.
